Karnataka Floor Test: HD Kumaraswamy government to face trust vote, CM says will win clearly; BJP in the race for speaker's post

After the high voltage drama, the Karnataka government formation has reached its last stage, that is Floor Test. JDS' HD Kumaraswamy swear-in as Karnataka's 25th Chief Minister on Wednesday, 23rd May. The newly elected Karnataka CM, HD Kumaraswamy has to face the final test of its government as it has to face floor test today on Friday that will end the 10-day political uncertainty in the state. Kumaraswamy is the second CM of the Karnataka to sworn-in within seven days.

According to TOI, after taking the oath, Kumaraswamy had voiced confidence about winning the floor test but said he had an apprehension that the BJP would try to repeat "Operation Kamala" to bring down his government.

Earlier, BJP's BS Yeddyurappa, sworn in as the chief minister of Karnataka on May 17, and two days after stepped down before facing the floor test.

Undaunted by Yeddyurappa's unceremonious exit, the BJP today run for the post of the speaker and field its senior leader S Suresh Kumar, a fifth term MLA name, whose election will precede the trust vote.

Ramesh Kumar of Congress too filed his nomination for the post as the candidate of the ruling coalition. "Based on the strength of numbers and various other factors, our party leaders have confidence that I will win. With that confidence I have filed my nomination," the BJP candidate said, indicating that the saffron party was keen on giving the JD(S)-Congress alliance a run for its money.

The BJP has emerged as a single largest party in the assembly with 104 MLAs. When asked about his chances of winning, the BJP nominee said, "I have filed my nomination. There is an election tomorrow at 12:15 pm. After the election, you will get to know."

Congress Legislature Party leader and former chief minister Siddaramaiah exuded confidence about the coalition candidate's victory. "I got to know that the BJP has also filed nomination. I hope they will withdraw. If the election happens, Ramesh Kumar's victory is certain," he said.

The oath ceremony occasion was an opposition unite moment as a galaxy of opposition leaders and chief minister was invitee in the event. From Sonia Gandhi to Arvind Kejriwal were present at Vidhan Soudha.
