One soldier has gone missing after an avalanche hit an army post in Kargil sector of Jammu and Kashmir. According to the media reports, the avalanche hit the valley on 17 March, Thursday.

Rescue operations were launched to locate the missing soldier. Initially, two soldiers were reported to be missing. However, one of the two soldiers was rescued on the same day by the search teams.

Both the soldiers were on surveillance duty when they were hit by the avalanche, which was triggered by a minor earthquake.

The incident comes a month after a deadly avalanche hit Siachen Glaciers in Jammu and Kashmir, close to the Line of Control or LoC, killing 10 army personnel.
