Jawaharlal Nehru University Student's Union President Kanhaiya Kumar, who was booked under sedition charges, has been granted bail by the Delhi High Court. The JNU student who spent two weeks in the Tihar Jail will be leaving the facility after furnishing a bail bond of Rs 10,000.
Kumar was arrested on 12 February for allegedly raising anti-India slogans at an event in the varsity. Earlier, security for Kumar had been increased in Tihar Jail after an intelligence report.
His plea was set to be heard on 24 February but the Delhi Police reportedly told the High Court that Kumar's remand was required in order to confront him with other accused in the matter.
Conditions
The Delhi High Court listed conditions before giving bail to Kanhaiya and asked him to cooperate with police.
The court gave relief to Kanhaiya and asked him to furnish a personal bond of Rs 10,000 and a surety of the same amount.
The court made it clear that a JNU faculty member has to stand as surety for Kanhaiya, as reported by Times of India.
Another condition includes that Kanhaiya will have to cooperate in the investigation in the case and present himself before the investigators as and when required.
