JNU missing student case: Protesting students detained by Delhi Police
Jawarharlal Nehru University (JNU) students, who were on their way to the Ministry of Home Affairs to protest and demand a conclusive response on the whereabouts of missing student Najeeb Ahmed, were detained by Delhi Police on 21 October.
Najeeb Ahmed, a first year JNU student, has been missing since 15 October after a brawl with Akhil Bharatiya Vidhyarti Parishad (ABVP) activists on campus the previous night.
Since Ahmed went missing, students have been protesting at the administrative block of the varsity.
Except Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) student wing or ABVP, all other political parties participated in the protest, demanding quick action to find Najeeb.
On 20 October, the protesting students reportedly blocked the administrative block with the vice chancellor and other officials inside the building.

According to reports, not just the Vice-Chancellor M Jagadesh Kumar, but Rectors one and two and the university Registrar are also said to be confined inside the building.
While the VC was confined inside his office by the student, he tweeted out to the students, "We appeal to the students who have physically confined us to stop this and come for discussion. Let us discuss and resolve."

"Since the students did not let us go home in spite our appeal, we have no other option but be confined to the admin building," Kumar also tweeted.

However, according to reports, the students have denied blocking any official inside the building.
JNU Students' Union president Mohit Pandey denied the allegation of keeping anyone confined and told the media, "We are only lying outside the building, if anyone wants he can go out over our bodies."
A student named Najeeb Ahmed went missing on the morning of 15 October after he had an altercation with ABVP students the previous night.
Since then a police complaint has been filed under IPC Section 365 and a Proctorial inquiry has been initiated by the University.
