J&K: Chopper carrying pilgrims crashes in Katra, 7 feared dead

In a tragic incident, seven persons including woman pilot died after a helicopter carrying pilgrims to Vaishno Devi temple crashed in Katra area of Jammu and Kashmir.

The helicopter crashed at bus stand Katra, reports said. Rescue teams have reached the spot.

According to a NDTV report, the helicopter belonged to the privately-run Himalayan Heli Services, which also runs choppers for the Chardham Yatra.

The incident occurred when the chopper took off for Vaishno Devi from Katra when it crashed near White Hotel in Katra, killing all the persons on-board

According to sources, the chopper developed technical snag immediately after taking off and before crashed in an open filed, it turned into a ball of fire.

In October, over 2.7 lakh pilgrims had visited the holy cave shrine of Mata Vaishno Devi during Navaratras in Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir.
