Senior Congress leader Salman Khurshid is concerned about leadership vacuum in the Congress party which has dimmed party's prospect of making any kind of serious impact in the upcoming assembly elections in Haryana and Maharashtra.

Rahul Gandhi "walked away" from defeat when he resigned in response to the party's defeat in Lok Sabha Elections 2019. "The struggle of the Congress party is at the point that it may not ensure its own future", Salman Khurshid was quoted as saying by Associated Press.

Salman Khurshid lamented the delay in dealing with the debacle of Lok Sabha results. This delay is the cause of attrition in the party, he reportedly said.

The party leaders have not got together to analyze why Congress got defeated. "Our biggest problem is our leader has walked away," he was quoted as saying by AP on Monday.

"It's kind of left a vacuum," Khurshid said. "Sonia Gandhi stepped in, but there is more than an indication that she is treating herself as a stop-gap arrangement. I wish it wasn't so."
