IIT Bhubaneshwar is set to become the first ever IIT in the country to introduce a dance form as a course in its curriculum. RV Rajakumar, the director of the institute, informed the media that the college has introduced the traditional Indian dance form, Odissi, as a Btech subject.
As per a TOI report, students can now learn Odissi as an extra academic activity for the first two semesters. It says that 10 girls have already opted for the subject.
Students can now choose Odissi as an elective 'breadth course' during the second and third year of Btech. This means that there will be three credits of the elective course which will need to be cleared.
If students opt for the subject during the last or fourth year as well, they will get a diploma in dance along with their Btech degree.
