Speed News Desk | Updated on: 11 February 2017, 5:46 IST

On 4 November, the Dibrugarh police arrested Rakesh Paul, the chairman of Assam Public Service Commission, on corruption charges from Guwahati.

In October 2015, the Guwahati High Court had directed the CBI to conduct a preliminary inquiry against Paul, following which he has been detained over allegations of corruption. Charges of holding disproportionate sources of income have also been levelled against the controversial chairman.

A division bench of Chief Justice (acting) K Sreedhar Rao and Justice PK Saikia directed the CBI to conduct a "preliminary inquiry" into allegations of corruption against Paul, his wife Sunanda, brother Rajeev, and driver Sanjay Saha, said media reports.

Further details are awaited.
