In a good news for Delhiites, people who spend their time in long queues, will now get free life-saving surgeries in private Delhi's hospitals.

The Aam Aadmi Party-led Delhi government has given the task to 21 private laboratories.

Residents are required to show a referral letter from 30 selected government hospitals to avail the free service that includes MRIs, CT and PET scans, and ultrasounds.

The government had made it clear that there is no need to show income limit required to avail the scheme except a residence proof.

"The move will be a great help for poor patients. All the costs for radiology tests will be borne by the Delhi government. We have tied up with 21 private laboratories for the same...today's step is a revolutionary step in public heathcare sector," Chief Minister of Delhi Arvind Kejriwal said.

Meanwhile, Delhi's health minister Satyendar Jain explains the free surgery and radiology test scheme of Delhi government.

Kejriwal on Saturday said, if any patient doesn't get a date for surgery at a government hospital within one month, the hospital would refer them in private hospitals and the government will bear all the expenses

"Health services are so expensive today that if anyone suffers from a serious ailment, the biggest worry for the family is not the health of the patient, but where would the money come from," Kejriwal said while announcing the 'free surgery scheme'.

"We want to ensure that people, irrespective of their economic status, get best health and education facilities and this is a step in that direction," the Aam Aadmi Party leader said.
