Pink autorickshaws can soon be spotted on the roads of Ghaziabad.

On 22 June, the Ghaziabad Police launched the pink autorickshaws, which are exclusively meant for women passengers. The move is aimed at curbing crime against women and ensuring safety at night.

According to an NDTV report, the first phase of the project will see 20 auto-rickshaws on the roads. For now, all the drivers are male. The second phase may reportedly witness the induction of women drivers.

"We launched this service keeping in mind the crimes committed against women. This is a measure to counter that," NDTV quoted Ghaziabad SSP KS Emmanuel as saying. More autos will be added depending on the success of the project.

According to the report, the police have complete records of the drivers - including details like family relationships, address and phone number, among others.

Three of these autos will run from Vaishali Metro station.
