Gajendra Chauhan to have no say in FTII's academic affairs?

According to a Hindustan Times report, the central government is now ready to keep Gajendra Chauhan away from Film and Television Institute of India's (FTII) academic affairs. The decision has been taken to end the students' agitation against the appointment of Chauhan as the institute's chairman.

FTII students have been protesting since August 2015 and have found support from several leading names of the entertainment industry. According to them, Chauhan lacks the 'stature and vision' to lead the premiere institute.

According to the report, after a dialogue with the students, the government has assured them that Chauhan will be kept away from the institute's academic affairs but will continue as the chairman. Rajkumar Hirani, a noted filmmaker, might be appointed as the head of council, which will look into the academic affairs.

FTII students had approached Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal who had offered them Delhi as a venue to hold temporary classes. On 3 August, over 80 students held a protest march at the Capital's Jantar Mantar .

Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi had also visited the Pune campus of FTII to join protesting students, which sparked controversy with the BJP alleging that the protests were being politicised.
