Four members of a family killed in acid attack in UP

Four family-members in Uttar Pradesh's Gorakhpur district were killed after an alleged acid attack, the police said on Friday, 31 July. The incident took place in the Jharna Tola area of the district.

Police said the house of a CRPF havaldar, who is posted in Chattisgarh, was locked up since two days. After neighbours complained of a foul smell emanating from the house under Shahpur police station, the bodies of the four persons were recovered.

The deceased, who are family members of the CRPF havaldar, have been identified as Rajiya Devi (35), her son Anup (15) and daughters Poonam (16) and Rubi (12), police said, adding that the bodies have been sent for post-mortem.

Though the cause of the crime was not immediately known, police suspect that the four were killed by throwing acid.
