Former Defence Minister George Fernandes dies at 88 after prolonged illness

Former Defence Minister George Fernandes has died at the age of 88 after a prolonged illness.

Fernandes, who was suffering from an illness and was being treated for a long period of time, has today passed away at the age of 88. He was the Defence Minister during the NDA regime of 1998-2004 under Prime Minister’ship of late Atal Bihari Vajpayee and was a pioneer during the Emergency era, in opposing Indira Gandhi’s draconian rule.
