An FIR was registered on 10 August against recently expelled AIADMK MP Sasikala Pushpa on the charges of sexual harassment, assault and illegal confinement by the Thoothukudi police. Sasikala's son and husband, Pradeep Raja and Lingeswara Thilagam were also named in the FIR.

According to the Indian Penal Code, police have framed charges under sections 294 B, 323, 344, 354 A, 506(1) and TN Prohibition of harassment of Woman Act, 2002.

The FIR was lodged after Pushpa's domestic help filed a complaint with the police, alleging that she was sexually harassed by Sasikala's son and husband. The young woman also alleged that the family threatened to kill her if she revealed the ordeal to anyone. The domestic help told the police that she tried to escape from Sasikala's Anna Nagar house but they caught her and shaved her head.

Sasikala Pushpa was expelled from the AIADMK on 1 August for anti-party activities. The Rajya Sabha MP had gotten into a scuffle with DMK MP Trichy Siva at the New Delhi airport on 30 July.
