Reacting to Bollywood actor Aamir Khan's remark about growing intolerance in the country, Union Minister of State for Home Affairs of India Kiren Rijiju said that such statements "unnecessarily tarnish the image of the country."

Rijiju highlighted the fact that there has been a drop in the number of communal incidents under the NDA rule, in comparison to the records of 2013 and early 2014 when the UPA was in power.

"There are documents which prove that communal violence related deaths have reduced," Rijiju said.

"To make blatant statements like the country has become intolerant under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi is inappropriate," he said.
