The Election Commission of India has written to Delhi Police to register an FIR against cyber expert Syed Shuja, who yesterday in a press conference claimed that ‘2014 elections were rigged and EVM’s were hacked.’

The Election Commission has requested the Delhi Police to register a complaint against the organizers of the event as well and said that all those claims and allegations were baseless.

The Election Commission, in its letter has said, “requesting it to lodge an FIR & investigate properly the statement made by Syed Shuja yesterday at an event in London claiming to demonstrate EVMs used by ECI can be tampered with.”

The ECI further added that “Through media reports, it has come to the notice of the commission that allegedly one Mr Syed Shuja claimed (at the event in London) that he was part of the EVM design team & he can hack the EVMs used in elections in India.”

Now, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, whose party was also involved the hacking, as alleged by Syed, has said that “If someone has raised a question then it must be thought that what is the reason that a developed country like Japan is not using EVMs. It is not a question of a political party, it's a question of trust in democracy. EC & govt should make a decision.”

Mayawati, the other ally of the SP, claimed that EVM should go and said, “Keeping democracy's larger interest in view, essential to look into EVM matter so that it gets resolved soon. It's possible to validate ballot paper but it's not the case with EVM. We demand EC to hold 2019 general election using ballot paper, taking this into cognizance.”
