Don't write me off, I will still be around, says RBI Governor Raghuram Ranjan

On 22 June, RBI governor, Raghuram Ranjan said that there was urgent need to clean up the banking system which was one of the main reasons for slowdown in credit growth.

Rajan who recently, announced his decision that he will return to academia when his current term ends in September requested that he has not gone and still will be here around for two and a half months.

ANI quoted him as saying,"I feel like in last few day I've read lot of my obituaries & I'm still here for 2 & half months in this job."

He added, "After that I'll be still around somewhere in the world,probably a lot in India so don't write me off."

While speaking on ASSOCHAM event in Bengaluru, Rajan also said that Government was proposing reforms in the judicial process including speeding up the functioning of debt recovery tribunal which needed to be enacted soon.

In a message to central bank staff on 18 June, Raghuram Rajan announced that he will return to academia once his term ended on 4 September.

In the message, Rajan also wrote, "I will, of course, always be available to serve my country when needed."

Rajan, a former chief economist of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), has been under attack from the ruling party BJP's Rajya Sabha MP Subramanian Swamy, among others, for what they term as the RBI governor's failure to effect necessary interest rate cuts to boost the economy.
