Delhi police held a 62-year-old man for allegedly molesting Vistara air hostess; airlines may recommend him for 'no-fly list'

A 62-year-old passenger travelling from Lucknow to Delhi was held by Delhi police for allegedly molesting a cabin crew of Tata Vistara airline on board. The Delhi police held the Pune resident at the Indira Gandhi International airport (IGI) T-3 for bad behaviour and assaulting Vistara airline's air hostess.

As per sources, the incident happened when the flight landed at Terminal 3 of the IGI airport and passengers were de-boarding the aircraft. Later, a complaint was filed against the man and he was held at Delhi airport by police. A case was logged on charges of molestation.

“The air hostess, who hails from Meghalaya, was touched inappropriately by the accused more than once. She reported the matter to her seniors and some passengers also saw this disgraceful act,” say sources.

The airline released their statement saying, “Vistara does not tolerate abusive or unruly behaviour by passengers that puts the safety of its staff and other customers at risk, or compromises their dignity.”

A Vistara spokesperson said: “A member of our cabin crew operating flight number UK 997 from Lucknow to Delhi on March 24, 2018, reported an incident of sexual harassment by a passenger. Vistara does not tolerate abusive or unruly behaviour by passengers that puts the safety of its staff and other customers at risk or compromises their dignity. We have reported the matter to the police and other relevant authorities. An FIR is registered and the investigation is on. We are fully committed to providing our cooperation to all the authorities.”

The airline spokesperson also said the complaint has been logged and “will wait for the investigation to conclude basis which we will decide for the next course for NFL.”

“For NFL, we will wait for the investigation to conclude basis which we will decide the next course,” the spokesperson added.

If any passenger has unruly behaviour with the pilot-in-command or captain of the plane, they will file a complaint with the airline, this is the system of implementing NFL. An internal committee is set up to examine the matter and takes the decision in the matter in in 30 days along with the duration of the ban on the unruly passenger.

One any passenger is banned or put in the NFL by the airline after the examination, the other airline can follow the decision and ban him/ her for the same.
