Delhi Police files chargesheet against 17 al-Qaeda operatives

The Delhi Police has filed a chargesheet against 17 suspected al-Qaeda operatives on 10 June. Twelve of the 17 suspects are absconding.

The special cell of the Delhi Police chargesheeted five arrested members of the al Qaeda in the Indian Sub-continent (AQIS) - namely Maulana Anzar Shah, Abdul Sami, Zafar Masood, Abdul Rehman and Mohammed Asif.

Maulana Anzar Shah has been accused of motivating people to join the banned terror outfit in India.

The chargesheet was filed in the court of additional sessions judge Reetesh Singh, who fixed 14 July as the next date of hearing. Police also chargesheeted 12 other operatives who are on the run. They have been booked under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.

The AQIS was created by al-Qaeda's top leader, Ayman al-Zawahiri, in 2014.
