Delhi police arrests taxi driver for molesting tourist

Delhi Police has arrested the taxi driver of a private firm who has been accused of molesting a 20-year-old US tourist in Chittaranjan Park area of Delhi last week.

The accused Devraj Chauvan (30) was arrested last night from his house in Laxmibai Nagar, a senior police officer said today.

The girl, who was on a tour of India, has left for the US, the officer said.An FIR was lodged against the accused at the Chittaranjan Park Police Station on 30 July.

Earlier, a case was registered at Tophkhana Police Station in Ahmednagar in Maharashtra against the accused on July 28.The girl had reportedly come to Delhi along with other tourists and had booked the taxi online.

She was staying in a hotel in Chittaranjan Park area, said a senior Delhi Police officer."After the incident she went to Ahmednagar to visit a spiritual centre.

Initially, she could not speak about the incident due to fear but after coming to Ahmednagar, she shared the incident with her colleagues," police said.

Later, she met the Ahmednagar SP and narrated the incident after which the case was filed against the driver.
