After Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal apologized to Finance Minister Arun Jaitley in a defamation case, the Delhi High Court on Monday allowed them to ‘settle’ one of the two civil defamation suits filed in 2015.

The case is pertaining to alleged defamatory statements made by AAP national convener Kejriwal’s former lawyer against the BJP leader.

Justice Manmohan, who was hearing the case, noted that Jaitley has accepted the apology tendered by AAP leader through a letter and disposed off the Rs 10 crore defamation suit. He said that bother parties will be bound by their settlement terms and conditions.

Jaitley had filed the defamation case in 2015 when Kejriwal leveled the allegation of irregularities done in the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) while the former was head of the association.

In his letter, Kejriwal had said that the remarks by his former lawyer Ram Jethmalani against Jaitley were made without his consent. Along with five other AAP leaders – Raghav Chadha, Sanjay Singh, Ashutosh and Deepak Bajpai who were also named in the defamation suit, he offered their ‘sincere apology’. On the other hand, Kumar Vishwas refused to apologize and he also criticized Kejriwal for the apology.

However, Kejriwal and his four party leaders have also moved a joint application for closure of the first defamation suit.

Earlier, Kejriwal had apologized to other politicians too like Bikram Singh Majithia, Nitin Gadkari and Kapil Sibal.
