Death toll due to heatwave reaches 130. Temperatures may rise 3-4 degrees, says IMD

The country is battling with the worst heat situation as the number of heatwave-induced deaths touched 130. To add to the worries of the denizens, the Indian Meterological department has reportedly predicted a 3-4 degrees rise in temperatures in upcoming days.

According to media reports, a scorching heatwave has started to grip parts of peninsular India including Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra's Marathwada and Vidarbha and isolated pockets of Karnataka. Today, Delhi recorded 44 degrees celsius.

Parts of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Rajasthan, MP Vidarbha, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, Telangana, Rayalseema have been severely hit by the heat wave. In Odisha and Telangana, mercury is crossing the 45 degree mark at some places.

As per IMD, these conditions have not only occurred early but also simultaneously in a large chunk of the country.

The continuing heat wave in the country has led to serious concerns over temperatures breaking all previous records in many parts.

A look at the situation in different parts of the country reveals the extent of havoc that the heat wave has resulted.

People have also been cautioned against going out in the afternoon when the temperature reaches its peak.

The severe drought and acute water shortage across the country has added to worries about a difficult summer.
