Curfew imposed as Anantnag simmers over trucker's death

A curfew has been imposed in Anantnag in Jammu and Kashmir following violent protests over the death of truck driver Zahid Rasool Bhat.

Four police stations have been put under Section 144 ( Unlawful assembly). The police and CRPF have imposed heavy restrictions on movement in the area.

Protests started in the Valley after Bhat succumbed to burn injuries on 18 October sustained from a petrol bomb attack on 9 October.

Violent clashes erupted between protesting youth and security forces in Batengoo, Bhat's native village, Goriwan-Bijbehara, Anantnag town and Qoimoh and Khudwani in Kulgam on 21 October.
