In a turn of events, the Congress party has demanded President rule to be imposed in Telangana after seven of its MLA’s defected to the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) and three others are in touch with CM Chandrashekhar Rao.

Agitated after the move, the local unit of the Congress in Telangana has demanded President rule in the state.

The Congress, which contested the Assembly election in alliance with Chandrababu Naidu’s Telgu Desam Party, was decimated in the polls and could win only 19 seats.

On Friday, it was MLA D. Sudheer Reddy held talks with TRS president KTR and CM K Chandrashekhar Rao and said publicly that ‘around 10 Congress MLA were ready to jump ship and join TRS.’
