Congress leader Sachin Pilot on 24 October said his party will never allow the passage of the Criminal Laws (Rajasthan Amendment) Ordinance.

"The Assembly will decide what will happen and our demand is to withdraw it. We will never let this bill pass in this country," Pilot said.

"There is no place for stubbornness and ego in politics. The government will have to reconsider this black decision now as the bill has become the property of the Assembly," he added.

Expressing happiness over the transfer of bill to the Selection Committee, Pilot said: "I believe that this is the win of the opposition, the laws of democracy and the freedom of media. The politics which promoted corruption is defeated today. We did not fear to speak the truth and the government had to bow down."

The Rajasthan Government, in the current legislative session, passed an ordinance that protects both serving and former judges, magistrates and public servants in the state from being investigated for on-duty action without prior sanction.

The ordinance also sought to bar the media from reporting on accusations against judges and bureaucrats till the sanction to proceed with the probe is obtained.

The ordinance is an amendment to the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973.
