Congress files complaint against PM Modi web series in Election Commission

The Congress party has approached the Election Commission against the web series on Prime Minister Narendra Modi which was released this month.

In the complaint filed by the Congress, the party has said that a web series titled “Modi: Journey of A Common Man” was released by the Eros Now on digital platform and as the Model Code of Conduct is in force, the series deems to be defying the said rules about the biopic on any political figure.

The grand old party has further alleged that the aim of the web series is to “influence the viewers and voters” in the ongoing Lok Sabha election of 2019 and “it is a violation of Model Code of Conduct”.

Defending the move and the timing of the the release, director Umesh Shukla stated that his movie was based on a character and did not delve into politics.

“It was not planned this way. It is a coincidence. I was working on it since the last 11-12 months. It could have come out one month earlier as well, but it got delayed owing to some technical glitches.

Shukla further added that, “It doesn't make a difference to me if people say it is coming at this time because even when I came up with 'Oh My God!', people said it was too controversial. But I don't give too much attention to all this.”

This comes after the Opposition had complained about the biopic movie PM Narendra Modi and the poll watchdog had banned the film until the elections.
