Kiren Rijiju,Union Minister of State for Home, on 11 August, said that the peace agreement with National Socialist Council of Nagalim, Isak-Muivah faction (NSCN-IM) is a positive step but slammed the Congress for misinterpreting it.

"Congress President Sonia Gandhi and Vice President Rahul Gandhi are misinterpreting the issue through chief ministers of three Congress-ruled states Assam, Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh," Rijiju told reporters.

They are doing this "to convert the noble issue into a negative note, thereby provoking another unwanted situation," he said.

The peace agreement with the NSCN(IM) by the Centre is a positive step towards turning the unstable North East region into a peaceful place, he said in response to reporters' queries on the sidelines of a function here for railway service in Arunachal Pradesh.
