In a shocking incident in Chhattisgarh’s Raigarh district, a mining mafia has allegedly tried to kill a trainee IAS officer by running a JCB over his car, the police has said.

The incident took place in the Timarlaga mining belt of Sarangarh, and has raised the eyebrows of many in and out of the administration.

As the administration received the information regarding the illegal stone quarrying and dolomite mining, officers in the Raigarh district immediately left for the investigation. The officers who went to oversee the illegal mining happening in the area were Mayank Chaturvedi, trainee IAS officer posted as assistant collector in Raigarh, along with SS Nag, deputy director (mining) and a mining inspector.

The additional SP said that as the officers spotted the illegal mining happening underway in the Timarlaga, they stopped by to investigate the case. It was Amrit Patel whose men were carrying out the mining stopped the officials and asked them not to take any action against it.

Meanwhile, after Patel’s green signal, his men in the JCB machine tried to mow down the officials car while they were planning to leave. Although, the officers escaped narrowly from the attempt, Patel with his men allegedly tried to assault IAS officer Mayank Chaturvedi who has sustained minor injuries.

Items that were seized from the illegal mining spot were 10 trucks, two JCB machines, four motorcycles, 300 tons of limestone and explosive materials among others.

Police have registered a case against the accused and investigations are underway to nab the perpetrators.
