IIT-Kharagpur, on 4 July, has disclosed that the institute will start a "Centre for Science of Happiness". The centre will help students embrace more happiness and also seek further research in the field, NDTV reported.

The Centre will be named after Satinder Singh Rekhi, who is helping the institute set up the centre. In a statement issued by IIT-Kharagpur, the proposed 'Rekhi Centre for Science of Happiness' will develop "happy technocrats".

Through this centre, the IIT will aim to create an environment of meaningful life, happiness, well-being, holistic self-development and positive growth by promoting interaction among students, faculty members and campus community, said Damodar Suar, who is in charge of the overall coordination of the centre.

He added that the centre will also seek to develop courses, research and training which scientifically explore the science of happiness, NDTV reported.

The first national/international workshop on the science of happiness will be organised in August 2016, Damodar Suar said.
