Centre approves Rs 390 crore for SC students in poll-bound Punjab & UP

In a bid to 'woo voters' in poll-bound Uttar Pradesh and Punjab, the central government today approved Rs 390 crore for Schedule Caste students.
According to a Pradesh18 report, a sum of around Rs 390 crore under post-matric scholarships for SC students in Punjab and Uttar Pradesh for the year 2016-17 has been approved by the Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment, Thaawarchand Gehlot.
According to the report, of the Rs 390 crore, Rs 217.89 crore has been released to Punjab and Rs 173.32 crore for UP
Under the scheme, scholarships ranging from Rs 230 to Rs 1,200 per month are being given to SC students up to the post-graduation level.
