CBI claims West Bengal DGP absconding as 'he is wanted for questioning in Sharda chit fund case,' TMC on backfoot
As Prime Minister Narendra Modi held his first rally in West Bengal and initiated the poll campaign for 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the CBI has claimed that Bengal DGP is ‘absconding’ and he is ‘wanted.’
The CBI has claimed that Rajeev Kumar, the current DGP of the state, has been on run and he is “wanted for questioning in the chit fund case” and he is missing.
Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee has tweeted over this development, supporting the Commissioner of Police and praised him. “The Kolkata Police Commissioner is among the best in the world. His integrity, bravery and honesty are unquestioned. He is working 24x7, and was on leave for only one day recently. When you spread lies, the lies will always remain lies”

Although, according to police officials, Rajeev Kumar was on leave till January 31 and he has been in office since Friday, 1st February and there is n question of him running away.
Rajeev Kumar was heading the Special Investigation Team, which was probing the Sharda and Rose Valley chit fund scam which had surfaced in 2013. The CBI summoned him and other officers related to the case, as some of the documents were missing.
The Kolkata Police has issued a statement saying, “Kolkata Police condemns and denies such baseless news. Please take note that not only is the CP Kolkata available in the city, but has also been attending office on a regular basis, with the exception of 31.1.19, when he was on leave for a day.”
