Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) lawmaker Alok Sanjar stepped down on Bhopal streets on 20 October to clean the litters of last night Diwali celebrations.

The Bhopal MP, along with other residents and party workers, swept the leftovers of Diwali crackers on the roads of Shivakunj Railway Society-11, which also includes his residence.

Sanjar said that the society members had decided to start a cleanliness drive in their colony on the morning after Diwali celebrations.

"The residents of society irrespective of their age, the party workers and MLAs, gathered on the streets at 8 a.m. and cleaned the colony. We also used this opportunity to greet each other on the Govardhan Pooja," a panting Sanjar said.

"We are trying to communicate Prime Minister Narendra Modi's message to each and every door. Even during a feast, we first perform a cleanliness drive and then consume our food. We want Bhopal- the second cleanest city in India to reach number one position and we are putting efforts in this direction," Sanjar added.

Talking about today's auspicious festival of Govardhan, the BJP lawmaker said, "Cow is also a manifestation of Goddess Laxmi and the protection of cows indicates protection of our country. We will attempt to keep our traditions and culture alive by celebrating this festival with immense joy."
