Indian Union Cabinet Minister for Women & Child Development and animal activist, Maneka Gandhi said that the person responsible for the horse's death should face immediate punishment. A media report quoted Maneka Gandhi as saying, "Horses should no longer be part of our police systems; They serve no purpose. In every crowd engagement, horses are at the mercy of any vicious person who is too cowardly to do anything but injure it."
She added, "Shaktiman was a police officer on duty; the person who ultimately killed him should be arrested for killing a police officer."
Joshi was sent to 14 days' judicial custody on 18 March and charged with animal cruelty. However, he was released on bail soon after.
