Bengaluru riots: Karnataka govt decides to recover damages just like in Uttar Pradesh

The government of Karnataka on Wednesday stated that damages faced during Tuesday’s violence in Bengaluru will be reclaimed from people who were embroiled in the riots in the state capital. The state government further stated that the riots were thought out and the police have identified some suspects.

Talking to India Today, Karnataka minister CT Ravi stated , "The riot was planned. Petrol bombs and stones were used in destruction of property. Over 300 vehicles were burnt. We have suspects but can only confirm after investigation."


CT Ravi stated that the state government has come to a decision to recover the damages from the rioters. "We will do asset recovery from rioters like in Uttar Pradesh," he said.

"As per the direction of the Supreme Court to all states, in case of rioting where public property has been damaged, it should be recovered from the persons who have were involved in the rioting. We are identifying the people involved and assessing the damage suffered," he said.

Talking along the same line, Karnataka Revenue Minister R Ashoka also stated that the Bengaluru violence were "well planned act". Speaking to news agency PTI, Ashoka stated "traitors", who perpetrated the violence would be dealt with iron hand and steps would also be taken to make sure such incidents do not recur.

On Tuesday areas which comes under Pulakeshinagar assembly constituency witnessed a disorderly faction on a rampage setting fire to vehicles and turning to widespread arson. The riots were allegedly prompted by a 'communally sensitive' social media post.

Three people lost their lives in police firing, over 50 injured, including police personnel, and around 300 vehicles were torched during the violence.

Congress MLA Akhanda Srinivasa Murthy’s property and his family were picked out after a 'communally sensitive' post shared online allegedly by one of his relatives infuriated a section of people.

"We were not at home when all this happened," Jayanthi, the MLA's sister said weeping inconsolably. "The only solace is that my brother and his family are safe," she said.
