Veteran BJP leader was admitted to the AIIMS of 11 June following kidney tract infection, urinary tract infection and low urine output. Mr Vajpayee was kept on life support since last two days in All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS).

As Atal Bihari Vajpayee's health got worse, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Textile Minister, Smriti Irani made a visit on Wednesday to the hospital to inquire about the health of the veteran leader. Atal Ji was a diabetic patient and had only one kidney functional. After the stroke that hit him in the year 2009, his cognitive abilities have also weakened. Later, he also developed dementia. Vajpayee was bedridden since 2009 and his condition is said to critical. He was suffering from lower respiratory tract infection and kidney- related issues.

Atal Bihari Ji was the first head of government from mon-Congress party to serve a full five-year term as a leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party. Vajpayee was elected to Lok Sabha from Lucknow in 1991, 1996, 1998, 1999 and 2004.

Mr Bihari is a Padma Vibhushan awardee. He is also a recipient of India's highest civilian honour, the Bharat Ratna, which was conferred on him in 2015.
