Assembly Elections 2018: Big debacle for Congress in Mizoram as CM candidate Lal Thanhawla loses both seats to MNF

In the run up to the election in Mizoram, the Congress party has lost miserably in the state and its CM candidate has lost both the seats on which he was contesting.

After being run into the high level of anti-incumbency, the Congress party which has been ruling since last 10 years in the state has now been shunted out by the NDA’s ally Mizo National Front.


CM Lal Thanhawla has lost from the Champi South (INC) by 1,049 votes and he also lost from his 2nd seat Serchhip, which he was contesting to maintain a balance and a sense of security.

The vote share of Mizo National Front is 38% and that of Congress is 30.7% but the North East Democratic Alliance, headed by Himanta Biswa Sharma, has taken the lead in the state with a “Congress Mukt North East” and the last bastion of Congress has been snatched away by the regional party.

The news agency ANI tweeted saying “Mizoram Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla has lost from Champhai South seat, MNF's TJ Lalnuntluanga has won.”

TMC president and West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee has tweeted saying, “People voted against BJP. This is the people’s verdict and victory of the people of this country.”

As per the latest information, BD Chakma of the BJP has won the Tuichawng seat, he was earlier a minister in the Congress government before he switched to the BJP. The BJP state president JV Hluna has lost his deposit in Tawi constituency and its a clear victory for the ally MNF.
