Assam: Class 5 girl burnt alive, after allegedly gang-raped by schoolmates in Nangaon

Yet in another shocking incident, a class five girl in Assam's Nagaon district was set on blaze alive after she was allegedly gang-raped by five boys she knew on Friday. The 10-year-old had suffered 90 percent burn injuries and breathed her last in hospital, on Friday late night.

The victim was rushed to Nagaon Civil hospital, where before she succumbed to her burn injuries, she told the police that the three boys allegedly raped her and had poured kerosene over her. She died on the way to the Guwahati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH).

She told the police in the hospital that the men had poured kerosene on her after raping her. The child named the accused before she died. The police have arrested two of the five men, according to ANI.

The police have held the two accused while the third has fled away. All the accused are juvenile hence are booked under Juvenile Act. The two accused are said to be the victim's schoolmates, the third accused, Zakir Hussain, apparently belongs to the girl's village and is believed to be on the run, Hindustan Times reported.

According to Nagaon SP, Shankar Raimedhi, the incident took place when the girl was alone at her house in Lalungaon village and the three accused barged in, gang-raped her, poured kerosene on her and set her ablaze, the daily reported.

A medical test to confirm rape could not be conducted "due to the severity of the injuries," Mr Raimedhi added.

“I went to see her at the hospital. She was in great pain and had difficulty in speaking,” said Nagaon SP Shankar Raimedhi.“However, we have recorded a dying declaration of the victim and based on that we have nabbed two accused - they are both juveniles who studied in the same school along with the victim. The operation is underway to nab the third,” he added.

According to News18, Sources said she was alone at home after returning from school. The three accused led by Zakir Hussain barged into the house, and after raping her poured kerosene and set her ablaze.

The victim was found in a critical condition by one of her family members who saw smoke coming from the shed and was rushed to the hospital.
Police are investigating the case.
