Chief of Army Staff General Dalbir Singh will visit Jammu and Kashmir on 7 September to conduct a review of the security situation in the Valley that has been plagued with unrest for over two months now.

Gen Singh is scheduled to arrive in Srinagar to review the security situation in the hinterland of the Valley and along the Line of Control, defence sources said.

The Army chief will be briefed about the security grid along the Line of Control and anti-militancy operations in the hinterland by senior army officers and local formation commanders, the sources said.

Meanwhile, an army convoy was attacked by militants in Kashmir's Kupwara district, leaving two security personnel injured. Militants fired on the army convoy at Handwara in Kupwara district, resulting in injuries to the two soldiers, army officials said.

They said the militants fled the scene after carrying out the attack. An operation has been launched to track down the militants, they added.

Over 70 people have died and more than 10,000 injured in the clashes followed by the killing of Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani in July.
