Amritsar Train Accident: Train driver alerted the station master minutes before the train crushed people and left heap of bodies behind

The train accident which took 60 lives yesterday night in Amritsar while people were watching the burning of Ravana’s effigy from a railway track.

The DMU Jalandhar-Amritsar passenger train’s pilot, after sensing the that the train has rammed over people while speeding, informed the station master at the next station of Amritsar, said a senior railway official.

The statement of the train driver will also be recorded to ascertain the cause of the accident, says the official.

 “Currently, train services are suspended between Amrtisar-Manawala railway section. We will hold a review at noon and a decision will be taken in this regard,” says Deepak Kumar, CPRO, Northern Railway

Deepak Kumar added that “58 people died & 48 were injured in Amritsar train accident yesterday. It does not appear that the loco driver was at fault in the incident. Amritsar-Howrah Mail had passed the same spot two minutes before the accident occurred.”

Punjab’s Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu said at the Civil Hospital that “The accident occurred within a matter minutes when the train came at a high speed. The train did not blow the horn. CM has ordered an investigation into the incident.”

The crackers were exploding and hence maybe the hooting of the train could not be heard but it is a very initial stage and further investigation will reveal that whether the train made the hooting or not.
