Amritsar Train Accident: Survivors, dead's ornaments, wallets and mobile phones robbed off after Amritsar train mishap
Days after 61 people were crushed to death by a train that rammed over a crowd watching Dussehra celebration by DMU (diesel multiple unit) train near Jora Phatak area of Amritsar city, relatives and families of those deceased alleged that when they received their kin bodies back, ornaments, mobile phones and wallets belonging to them were missing.
“I lost my son to the negligence of the administration and organisers of the function. We found his body at the civil hospital but his mobile phone worth Rs 20,000, wallet and gold chain was missing,” Jyoti Kumari, mother of Vasu (17), who died in the accident told Hindustan Times.
A survivor Deepak, who suffered injuries in his leg and lost his three-year-old daughter Nandani asserted, “I went to celebrate Dussehra with my daughter and son. I lost my daughter and my son is battling for life. While I was shouting for help, someone picked my mobile phone from my pocket.”
The video of the heinous accident shows several people were filming a video of the Dussehra celebration and the train passed by that led a major mishap. Even people were seen taking selfies when the horrific accident took place.
Punjab Chief Minister, Capt Amarinder Singh has announced a compensation of Rs 5 lakh to families of deceased whereas PM Modi has approved ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh to families of those killed in the Amritsar train tragedy.
