Agra police beats man to death in custody, as UP police books entire police station for custodial death

In another failed attempt by the UP police to discipline the the administration, cops in Agra have beaten a man to death in the custody and now the UP Police has booked the entire police station for the crime.

The incident occurred at Sikandara police station of Agra city where a 32-year-old man was booked and allegedly beaten to death by the police after he was tortured in front of his mother.


The UP Police took strict action against the Agra city police of the Sikandara station and suspended one inspector and two sub-inspector. The deceased Hemant Kumar, who is also Raju Gupta was apprehended by the police after the neighbors alleged him of stealing the jewelry worth Rs 7 lakh from the Narendra Enclave at Gairana road.

Mother of Raju, Renu Lata, who kept pleading in the station, for his son’s release went into a shock and later said that “My son was mentally weak and used to work at neighbor Anshul chemical shop, who has alleged that my son had stolen jewelry from his house and handed over to police. Police have beaten my son in front of my eyes and I kept pleading them to leave my son.”

Raju’s father, Om Prakash Gupta, who was a bank manager at State Bank of India, had died in 2001.

Renu later said that “Police killed my son and made me watch it. I kept pleading for mercy but they kept torturing him and later they dropped me home in the evening. At 9 pm the informed me that my son is dead.”
