Prime Minister Narendra Modi is all set to address the Indian community in Bangkok at an event titled ‘Sawasdee PM Modi’ on Saturday.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has departed for a 3-day visit to Thailand today. He will participate in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), East Asia, and Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) summits, during the visit.

He will address the Indian community at 6 pm India time today. The Sawasdee PM Modi event is being organized by Thai Indians, in coordination with the Indian Embassy in Bangkok.

The word ‘Sawasdee’ is used by Thai people for greeting and goodbye. However, it is derived from the Sanskrit word svasti (well-being).

This will be the second such mega event of PM Modi after Houston’s ‘Howdy Modi’ event held on September 23, where PM Modi addressed over 50,000 Indian diaspora. Also, the US President was present during the event.

Apart from addressing the diaspora, PM Modi will also release a commemorative coin to mark the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev, as well as the Thai translation of Tamil classic ‘Tirukkural’, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said on Thursday.
