3 army jawans, 1 militant killed in Kupwara district of J&K

Three armymen were killed in two separate gun battles between terrorists and security forces in Jammu and Kashmir today.

The encounter began in Hafruda forest area of Handwara on the night of 4 October, and is reported to be underway.

In another encounter in the Lolab Valley in Sogam block of Kupwara, the Jammu and Kashmir security forces gunned down one militant.

A massive combing operation was initiated on Sunday evening after the army received specific inputs about presence of heavily armed militants in the area.

"It is being confirmed whether the group of militants engaged in an encounter near the LoC had infiltrated into the Valley yesterday (Sunday) or earlier," a senior police officer said.
