On 25 April, the nine Muslim youths accused in the September 2006 Malegaon blast were acquitted by a Mumbai court. The men, who have spent the last five years in jail, were charged with the execution of the Malegaon blast that killed at least 35 people and injured not less than 125 people in 2006.

The nine had filed a discharge petition in the session's court and claimed that they had been framed by the ATS and were subjected to third degree torture.

The National Investigation Agency asserted that it had found no evidence linking the men to the terror attack.
