Train derails near Andheri, no causality reported

Traffic was disrupted after seven coaches of a Mumbai local train derailed between Andheri and Vile Parle railway station. The accident has affected traffic movement at the route which links Churchgate with Virar area.

The train coming from Borivali to Churchgate derailed at around 11 AM between Andheri and Vile Parle stations - the second such incident involving local trains in as many days.

A team of engineers and rescue officials have rushed to the spot to restore the services, the public relations officer said. An inquiry would be conducted to ascertain the cause of the derailment, he added.

The suburban train services were badly affected on the busy route due to the derailment.

A local train coming from Bandra had last evening derailed on the Harbour Line of Central Railway while entering the platform at Chhattrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST), causing inconvenience to commuters during the peak hours.

Suburban harbour line services, both up and down, were yesterday suspended between CST and Wadala Road Station owing to the mishap.
