The Shiv Sena has hit out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi today by reminding him that Jawaharlal Nehru and Indira Gandhi gained popularity without the help of social media.
In its mouthpiece Saamna, the Shiv Sena said there is doubt that PM Modi is extremely popular and his recent US visit has only cemented that belief, but one cannot forget Nehru and Indira Gandhi's popularity at a time when there was no social media.
The Shiv Sena also stated that the contribution of previous Congress prime ministers like PV Narasimha Rao and Manmohan Singh cannot be forgotten.
The Saamna said that PM Modi enjoys extraordinary popularity abroad but we must not forget that Manmohan Singh and Narasimha Rao laid the foundation for India's economic progress.
The Sena added that a revolution in broadcasting and telecom first took place during Indira Gandhi's regime and later his son and the then PM Rajiv Gandhi carried forward her legacy.
The Shiv Sena has been criticising the BJP since the two parties, allies for over 25 years, fell out just before the Maharashtra elections a year ago, but patched up to form the government.
