In a suspected case of honour killing, a 20-year-old man was allegedly shot dead by family members of the girl he was reportedly in a relationship with, the police said on 17 August.

The incident occurred in Vehalna village of Muzaffarnagar district of Uttar Pradesh.

Nazim was shot dead after the girl's family found the couple together at the girl's residence last night, they said.

SP (Crime) Pradeep Gupta said a case has been registered against the girl's father Arvind, uncle Praveen and brothers Pradeep and Deepak.

He said Praveen and Pradeep were arrested on 17 August and the pistol used in the crime was also seized. A manhunt has been launched for absconding Arvind and Deepak while the victim's body has been sent for postmortem, Gupta said.

Tension prevailed in the village following the incident. Security has been stepped up and police personnel have been deployed to thwart any untoward incident. The duo was in a relationship for the past several months and the girl's family had objected to it, the SP said.
