The Election Commission has decided to increase the number of polling booths in Uttar Pradesh for the 2017 Assembly elections.
The state Election Commission has decided to increase the number of polling centres in the state and has invited suggestions or objections from the public and political parties till 1 July, said an official release. It said that new polling centres are being planned in the constituencies where there are more than 1,500 registered voters.
Meanwhile, District Magistrate DK Singh said that 50 new booths will be set up in the district. He said the number of polling booths in six constituencies- Muzaffarnagar, Budhana, Purkazi, Khatoli, Charthawal and Midanpur - will be increased from 1,769 to 1,819 booths.
