Wife drags IPS officer to women's commission over live-in-relationship

IPS officer Pankaj Chaudhary finds himself in yet another controversy. This time Chaudhary's wife Sudha Gupta has leveled charges of adultery against him. She has lodged a formal complaint with the State Women's Commission.

Varanasi resident Sudha Gupta, in a complaint filed on Tuesday, alleged that after Chaudhary became an IPS officer he abandoned her and entered a live-in relationship with another woman.

Chaudhary in response said that some state officers had instigated his wife to file the complaint.

Sudha Gupta told the media that she married Chaudhary in 2005. After he became IPS officer in 2009, a court claim of divorce was filed, which is pending in the High Court. It was established in a police investigation that he was living with another woman and had a son with her.

Police had investigated the case

Sudha had lodged a complaint to this effect in 2013 with the home secretary and the DGP. The police vigilance wing had found the allegations to be true. The vigilance ADG at that time, Sudhakar Johri had sent the report for further action in March 2015. However, no action had been taken.

Meanwhile, Chaudhary said he had married Sudha, but realised she was not a woman of "good character." He had documents to prove her second marriage based on which he had filed a divorce plea in court.

He claimed that some officers were trying to instigate his wife to take action against him and also accused an ADG of trying to hurt him.

In December 2015, Chaudhary had alleged that he was transferred for taking action against members of VHP and Bajrang Dal for inciting riots in Bundi's Nainwa and Khanpur in September 2014.
