Viral: This auto driver thought it was okay to shame a woman for wearing a dress

The chances are that 7 out of 10 people reading this post would take the autoriksha driver's side. After sweeping through a social media feed inundated with stories on slut-shaming and sexism, this conclusion is not difficult to come to.

A Facebook post currently going viral by a journalist based out of Bangalore tells the not-so-surprising tale of an auto driver, Srikanth who chose to tell her that she was wearing an inappropriate outfit after summarily asking her to 'not mind'.

Pictures of the man in question, who 'posed' happily because he felt assured that the misogynistic world we live in was likely to support his stance, garnered over 600 shares in less than a day. Aishwarya Subramanian was wearing a summer dress that ends just above her knee. If that is inappropriate, then do tell us what's the fastest procedure to move out of this country, because we're truly done with this place.

The incident took place at the entrance of the society where she lives. In broad daylight. And the men who gathered around as she took the auto driver's photos, told her that he was right. Only two, out of the crowd, backed her up. Wow, India. Way to publicly slut shame women.

"I walk away feeling shell shocked and ashamed. You want to know why we fight for our dignity? Because even the clothes we wear makes us sluts. What is the point in being a girl in this country anymore? I feel so embarrassed. My building's guard was standing right there as these men called me a slut for wearing the clothes I wore. This is who I am. These are the clothes I wear." writes Aishwarya.

But perhaps we have already reached a point of no-return in hyper-sanskari India.
